The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation Limited (BSRTC) has launched 75 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, including 25 air-conditioned, in urban transport from Bankipore Bus Depot near Gandhi Maidan, taking the state capital's public transport fleet to 145.
New buses ply from Gandhi Maidan to Danapur (111A), Phulwarisharif (222), Handi Saheb Gurdwara (666) and Bihta or IIT-Patna (888) and from Patna Women's College and Magadh Mahila College to Patna City (555). Seven intercity AC buses also run on Patna-Hajipur (444) and Patna-Biharsharif (777) routes.
Sunny Singh, Administrator, BSRTC said, "We have replaced all diesel buses from the city as a major step to keep the environment green and clean. We have covered Patna Municipal Area (PMC), Khagaul, Danapur and Phulwarisharif under this Clean Climate Action Plan . It was a herculean task to replace all diesel buses. More routes are planned to take this initiative further."
Arvind Kumar, BSRTC Regional Manager and Head of Operations (Patna), said that of the 145 eco-friendly buses, 120 are CNG and 25 are electric buses. "This is the first time ever that BSRTC has procured CNG AC buses which we run on routes 111A, 222, 555 and 888. The bus fare has not increased at all. Residents have to pay the same amount as before. pay for the old buses."
The bus fare will vary from Rs 6 to Rs 50 depending on the destination. According to officials, 65% seats will be reserved for women, with separate seats for senior citizens and persons with special disabilities. Panic buttons help women travelers raise the alarm in case of emergency.
All BSRTC buses in the city will be integrated with the newly built Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) to ensure the safety of passengers, especially women passengers.
